Lisa Walker

Jeweller Lisa Walker ONZM is from Te Whanganui-a-tara (Wellington), but between the 1990s and 2009 has been living in Germany. Since moving back to Pōneke, Walker has been sharing a studio with partner and jeweller Karl Fritsch. Her work seems to break all the rules and feels somewhat oppositional in its Dadaist approach to experimentation and materials.

Walker was one of the first to emerge from the Craft Design degree at Otago Polytechnic (now Dunedin School of Fine Arts) in 1988, where she specialised in jewellery and went on to work with Kobi Bosshard. When Walker moved to Germany, she trained under Professor Otto Künzli at Munich’s Academy of Fine Arts and was named Head Student in 2001. In 2010, she was awarded the Francoise van den Bosch award and even had a retrospective at Te Papa Tongarewa in 2018.
