Turumeke Harrington
Turumeke Harrington (Kāi Tahu, Rangitāne, Ngāti Toa Rangatira (Kāti Hāteatea, Ngāti Waewae, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, Ngāti Mairehau, Ngāti Haumia ki Paekākāriki)) is from Ōtautahi Christchurch, but based in Pōneke Wellington. Harrington was the inaugural recipient of the Toi-o-Moroki Springboard award in 2021 and is a member of Paemanu Ngāi Tahu Contemporary Visual Arts.
Harrington completed a Bachelor of Design Innovation (Industrial Design) at Victoria University of Wellington in 2011, a Certificate in Footwear design at RMIT in 2013 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at Ilam School of Fine Arts in 2018. Her work is guided by whakapapa and the practice of whanaukataka. You can also see that in her interest in materials and sculptural components, which are drawn from her background in design. That intersection in her work is evident.
