Jennifer Laracy
Jennifer Laracy is a jeweller based in Ngāmotu New Plymouth and co-established The Jewel and The Jeweller alongside Sam Kelly. Her work focuses on the memories of objects and how they function as a token of remembering. For instance, her work on souvenir jewellery retraces the post-war Paua shell jewellery boom and considers the complex history it sits within.
Laracy graduated from Whitireia in 2001, and since then has been exhibiting across Aotearoa, including at Objectspace and the Dowse. Her work has been shown in the Netherlands, Canada, Munich, Australia - and in 2018, was awarded a research and development grant from Creative New Zealand to travel to Europe. Between 2017 and 2018, she was the recipient of the Handshake Jewellery Development award and was mentored by Judy Darragh.
